The Arts Committee continues in its role as a supporter of poetry by managing the selection process for finding new poet laureates in collaboration with the existing poet laureate and with Carrboro’s Poets Council.
The application process has focused on the quality of the applicant’s poetry as well as their ideas for advancing the writing, reading, and appreciation of poetry in Carrboro, Orange County, and surrounding cities and towns. The Committee also advocates with the Town of Carrboro for funding of the West End Poetry Festival.
Every poet laureate has a positive impact as the spokesperson for poetry in Carrboro and the community through their presence and their poetry.
